The Jillaroos ran in seven tries to wrap up back-to-back Pacific Cup titles. After being pushed to the limit by the Kiwi Ferns in Auckland a week earlier, the Jillaroos flexed their muscle with some scintillating attack and bruising defence.
The high-flying Julia Robinson capped a magnificent season with a try double and the player of the match award. Robinson had 138 run metres and two tackle breaks as she cemented her standing as one of the game's elite outside backs.
The Australian back five of Tamika Upton, Isabelle Kelly, Robinson, Tiana Penitani Gray and Jakiya Whitfeld combined for 65 runs and 665 metres for the Jillaroos, while Jess Sergis came off the bench to score a try and rack up 111 run metres.
Kiwi Ferns fullback Apii Nicholls could hold her head high after another classy display that saw her rack up 156 metres from 17 runs and six tackle breaks. Nicholls brought the ball out of her own end with some ferocious runs and her defence was also first-rate.
The Jillaroos' tries came in every way, with ominous signs from the moment Olivia Kernick slid over under the posts from first receiver in the third minute.
Playing in her first international series Jesse Southwell stood up at halfback, kicking across field for a high-flying Julia Robinson to score.
Quincy Dodd hit Keilee Joseph on the chest to put her through a gaping hole next to the posts for one try, and Ellie Johnston crashed over for another.
And even when New Zealand looked like it was going to post first-half points just before the break, Australia swung the play in its favour.
After Robinson pulled Shanice Parker down in the corner, the Jillaroos went coast-to-coast next set when Whitfield stepped into a hole and put Sergis into space.
Upton also went over for her customary try in the second half, doing so in typical fashion when she dummied to the left and created a hole to run through.
New Zealand was able to go in twice through Parker and Tysha Ikenasio, but by then the contest was effectively over.
