Match Preview: ITALY AND GREECE NAME SQUADS FOR Euro C RELEGATION DECIDER

Italy will take on Greece tomorrow (Saturday) at the Pasian Di Prato Stadium, Udine (kick off 3pm, local time) in the final game of Euro C. After both nations lost to Ukraine, the vanquished will be relegated to Euro D for 2026.

Vice president of the Italian RL Federation, Paolo Lollo, is confident that their side can rise to the occasion. “The match against Greece will be an important opportunity for our players to demonstrate their talent. We are proud of our team and confident that they will give their best. We are ready to support them in every way possible.”

Head coach, Leo Epifania, added: “We are ready to give our all against Greece. Our team is determined and ready to show its worth. It will be a difficult game, but we are confident in our players' abilities.”

Greece opened their tournament on Wednesday, but head coach Steve Georgallis is confident his side can respond despite the short turnaround. “We had a very hard and physical game against Ukraine and the same will apply against Italy,” he said. “The Italians have some very talented players in their squad and we understand that they will be keen to win at home.”

Match Report: Italy are relegated from Euro C after a 14-46 loss to Greece

A dominant nine-try performance by Greece condemned Italy to relegation from Euro C, after a 46-14 triumph at the Pasian Di Prato Stadium in Udine. The hosts took an early lead through hooker Nicolas Lenaz but opposite number Deon Iro replied almost instantly and, from there, the visitors dominated.

Greece head coach, Steve Georgalis, commented: “I’m very happy with the performance after our loss with Ukraine. We played well in the first 10-15minutes when the Italians came at us and completed well. Even though it was a short turnaround, our structures were better from it being a second game together and we were impressive overall.”

Fullback Tyrone Tsagalias maintained his good form with two tries and five goals for a personal tally of 18 points, Eddie Markopoulos also crossing twice, his first towards the end of the opening half making it 26-4 at the break.

Greece took advantage of George Stamatos’s sinbinning in the 65th minute for a high tackle, posting two tries in his absence to illustrate their overall dominance. Their win sees them retain their place in Euro C next year.

Italy head coach, Leo Epifania, bemoaned: “We weren’t good enough, simple as that. Whatever circumstances went against us, we were unable to respond and that’s really disappointing.”
