Scotland ran England close in the opening U16s Four Nations game at Halton Farnworth Hornets.

The visitors opened the scoring with Tom Glover powering through to open the scoring, also adding the conversion. Tyler Lindsay barged his way through shortly afterwards to put Scotland further ahead, with Ryan Wood improving with the kick to give them a 12 point lead.

England kicked into gear with Harry Mikael breaking their duck as Tyce Walmsley added the conversion before Rio York added a brace in rapid succession and Walmsley added a last minute touchdown and the following kick to make the half time score 20-12.

England were quick out of the blocks in the second half as Deen Pattinson added an early score, converted by Walmsley, to push them into a commanding lead.

But that lead look in doubt as the remainder of the game belonged to Scotland, with Declan Smith barging his way through, although Wood could not convert. Scotland were in again as Tyler Lindsay added a score with ten minutes remaining, Wood on target with the boot to bring Scotland to within four points.

Scotland threw everything at England in the final ten minutes but the hosts hung on to grind out victory.
