Wales, with 13 players coming through the South Wales club pathways, produced an outstanding second half to beat an Ireland side who initially looked promising.
The Irish have many of their players in Super League scholarship sides, but that mattered not to the Welsh who scored five tries without reply in the second half.
Wales were first over the line, but the try was disallowed for a forward pass. From the scrum, Ireland scored after a length of the field set. Austin Byrne went over in the corner and Tommy Rhodes converted.
The lead was soon doubled. Joseph Gill went over from short range and Rhodes converted again and Ireland were 12-0 up.
Wales' comeback started on 27 minutes. Skipper Joshua Harding went in under the sticks and Matthew Clatworthy converted.
Then on the stroke of half-time, Wales were level. After a fine set of passes, Ioan Herbert dived in the corner. Clatworthy superbly kicked the goal from the touchline.
The scores were 12-12 at the break, but Wales soon took the lead for the first time in the game. Tyler Mills forcing his way over and Clatworthy converted.
Wales soon extended their lead to 26-12. Harry Wrigglesworth and Ed Williams scored in opposite corners, both tries going unconverted.
If Ireland weren't in trouble before, they were now as Rhodes was sent to the bin for an off the ball offence.
Immediately Wales scored again to cement the win through Zac Nottingham with Clatworthy adding the goal.
From kick-off, Herbert raced away for his second try of the game with Clatworthy easily converting.
Wales are top of the table after round one after England beat Scotland 26-22 in the other opening match.
