Match Report: Canada dominates Jamaica Men's 42-6 in Brampton

Wolverines’ fullback Oliver Lenahan was the star of the show with 22 points, as Canada’s men beat Jamaica 42-6 in a senior international for world ranking points at the Terry Fox Stadium, Brampton.
The hosts were dominant throughout, leading 26-0 at the break having posted five tries, Lenahan with the opening score on eight minutes followed by two from winger AJ Kosempel. Returning skipper Blake Mahovic then went over with the first of his brace and Lee Keegel completed the first half dominance.
Canada men’s head coach, Aaron Zimmerle, commented: “What a great a great way to end our international calendar for the season. We had some changes of personnel but every man that stepped up has been outstanding in their effort, especially youngster Henry Daho - it just shows the depth in Canada is growing.”
Adrian Hall went over for Jamaica’s sole score but Canada finished with a flourish with three more tries in 15 minutes from Charles Curren, Lenahan and Mahovic who ran the show.
“We missed too many tackles,” said Jamaica coach Roy Calvert. “I was pleased with how we started the second half and it was six-all for quite a while in that but we fell away at the end. We had some guys making their debut and that bodes well for our future.”
There was some consolation for the Reggae Warriors in the curtain raiser, with Jamaica U19s beating Canada 30-14, hooker Tavel Boodie with two of their five tries, the highlight being a 90 metre effort from winger CJ Brown just after the break.
JRL director of rugby, Romeo Monteith, commented: “It was a great game. We had some challenges in the first half, Canada really gave us a fight, but we re-established some dominance up front which enabled us to move the ball wide and score some nice tries.”
“Congratulations to Jamaica they were a better team on the day even though our boys put in a really solid effort,” said Canada U19s coach Steven Lenahan. “We reset and start preparing for hosting Scotland next July in Vancouver and then hopefully playing in the European championships.”
