IRL's Classification Advisory Group thanks Chris Godfrey

Chris Godfrey has stood down from IRL's Classification Advisory Group following the expiry of a successful two-year term as Chair.

Prior to his appointment as Chair, Godfrey had been the England representative on CAG since its inception in 2020 and a key contributor to the IRL PDRL international classification framework.

Godfrey, the RFL's National Inclusions Manager, took over from Vicky Myers in 2024 and oversaw the transformation of the advisory group from one populated by physical disability rugby league's international leaders into a specialised expert body with a more refined scope. He has been replaced in an interim capacity by Australian Physical Disability Rugby League Association secretary Che Fornusek.

"The IRL Classification Action Group extends its sincere thanks to Chris Godfrey for his many years of dedicated service and leadership in the development of physical disability rugby league." said Fornusek.

"Under his guidance, the CAG delivered the world’s first classification system for rugby league, ensuring that athletes with a wide range of physical abilities can compete fairly and confidently on the international stage. This system will be used at the upcoming PDRL World Cup in Sydney later this year, marking an important milestone for the sport.

"We wish Chris the very best in his future endeavours. His legacy places PDRL—and the new members of the CAG—in a strong position for continued growth and development."

The 2026 PDRL World Cup will kick off on October 30 with Australia taking on England, who then play New Zealand on November 2 before the trans-Tasman rivals clash on November 5. All games will be played at AIIMS Stadium in Cabramatta other than the final, which will take place at Allianz Stadium on November 8.
