After the European Rugby League's recent decision to delay the staging of RLWCQ events this year, the Malta Rugby League executive board remain motivated to honour its commitments to develop the women's game and play international rugby league in 2023.
Talks are already in place with Sport Malta and European opposition to stage a women's and men's double-header at home following the completion of the domestic competitions.
In a cooperative joint effort, Malta Rugby League players and staff are currently in camp with Malta Rugby Football Union 7's women's and men's squads preparing for the GSSE Malta 2023 XIX Games of the Small States of Europe, which begins in Malta on May 29.

The development comes as Malta Knights international Tallis Duncan made his NRL debut for the South Sydney Rabbitohs on May 27 against Canberra.
Duncan, 21, a high work-rate, hard-hitting back rower or lock made his international debut for Malta in last year's International Round when the Knights took on Lebanon Cedars at Belmore Oval.
He was widely regarded as player of the match.
