International Rugby League hosts anti-doping seminar for members
Delegates from 18 different member nations and both confederations attended the first of a series of anti-doping seminars delivered by International Rugby League’s (IRL) anti-doping officers, Professor Nenad Dikic and Professor Marija Andjelkovic
The programme is designed to ensure that IRL members are educated about their responsibilities to their players, coaches and fans under the world anti-doping code as required by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The initial content covered the roles of WADA, the responsibilities of the members and some specific areas outlining prohibited substances. There was emphasis on the provision of education to players so that they are as informed as possible and member nations can design their own anti-doping systems that are relevant and proportionate.
IRL secretary general Danny Kazandjian said: “One of the vital roles of an international federation is to ensure that members have the best possible access to information that will assist them in being a high-functioning national federation. These seminars provide them with vital and up to the minute information that provide a much safer environment for everyone who plays rugby league regardless of where they are. Anti-doping has no boundaries, and we must ensure that our members are as informed as possible, which will be through the IRL SafeRugbyLeague programme.
“I would like to thank Nenad and Marija for their efforts, the seminar was informative, interesting and practical. We look forward to further engagement so that international rugby league can be as safe and inclusive as possible.”
