African Warriors win first ever Ghana Junior Championship

African Warriors have been crowned as champions of the first-ever Junior Rugby League Championship to be organised by the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG).

The final game out of three was played on June 27 and was the deciding game in a three-game series between Firm Foundation Rugby Academy and African Warriors. 

The African Warriors took their chances in both halves  with Firm Foundation was unable to live up to their pre-match favourite status.

Man of the match Mohammed Yakubu (African Warriors) commented, "I am very grateful for this opportunity given to my team and I, by the federation. I would like to thank my coach for encouraging and making time for the team to get to this point as champions and history makers."

Eric Sowah, coach of the African Warriors expressed his excitement on his first-ever win in a championship. " The match was not an easy one but my boys proved they were determined to win. We will keep training so we can retain the trophy next season."

The General Manager of RLFG is hopeful about the future of the junior category of Ghana's Rugby League. "The performance exhibited by both teams tells one thing - The future of the Rugby League Federation of Ghana is bright. Kudos to the coaches training these young players and to the coordinator of the Junior RL Championship."

The final games of the Senior Championships take place this Sunday 

1 pm Accra Panthers vs Nungua Tigers(Men)

2:30 pm Ghana Skolars vs Nungua Tigers(Women)

3:30 pm Bulls RLFC vs Ghana Skolars (Men)
