As a sign of further progress in Norway, Lillestrom Lions have started training sessions for women. They have been meeting since early August under the guidance of Joshua William Skidmore-Hornby and Sonny Mellor, both experienced coaches and players.

This is a pilot programme which, as a part of Rugby League Norway’s strategic plan, will lead to a four team women’s national championship within the next three seasons. That will then provide the basis for the selection of Norway’s first international women’s team. In the short term, the aim is to visit the UK as soon as COVID-19 restrictions allow, to play some 9s and even potentially a full 13 a side game.

Karl-Fredrick Sandelin Velle, President of Rugby League Norway welcomes this latest development saying;

“I am proud, as President to say that we now have programmes in place for men, women, youth players and players with disabilities. I would like to say thank you to the many coaches and other volunteers who give their time freely to develop our fantastic sport in Norway.”
