The international rugby league community is saddened to hear of the passing of Australian legend Arthur Summons.

The former test captain is probably most famous for being one of the two players captured in bronze on the NRL Trophy. The bronze statue is named "The Gladiators" and is based on the iconic photograph of Arthur and Norm Provan leaving a muddy SCG after St George beat the Magpies in the 1963 grand final.

A private service for Arthur will be held in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales later this week.
